Next-generation bridge maintenance and management: industry–academia–government joint research

Service

There are approximately 730,000 road bridges in Japan, and these bridges are aging just like people. Over 32% of bridges are more than 50 years old, and it is an important issue in Japan to reduce life-cycle costs through appropriate maintenance and management and extending the service life of bridges. We are conducting joint industry–academia–government research on new technologies related to next-generation bridge maintenance and management, inspection rationalization, and business schemes such as comprehensive private-sector outsourcing.
